Blog #10 Dissection

Why is dissection an important part of a biology curriculum?
The reason why dissection is important for biology is because it keeps the classroom more interested. Not only that but instead of seeing a  picture of it and trying to figure out how parts work and where they are, you can have a student be up close and personal with the dissection. For me when i dissected a cow eye and a squid, i actually remembered more clearly where everything was and how to dissect. Usually when you're confronted with something, you tend to remember exactly where everything is. It just becomes sort of part of a memory. So dissecting can be part of a good studying technique.

Which animals and/or plants should be included in biological studies?
I think we should dissect a cow eye, just because in past experiences its been really interesting. Also maybe dissecting a frog, squid, baby pig. Also dissect a fish, just to see how difficult it is since they are so tiny. I can't think of anything else. But anything really interesting and out of the ordinary would be great to dissect.

Blog #8 What I Learned / Questions

Well after doing some of these recent blogs I've been learning about how this world we live in has so many biomes. You look at how much space a certain biome takes up, and what kind of characteristics it has, like what type of animals live in those areas. Also how certain plants live in specific biomes, and cant be found anywhere else. Also how the biomes were formed so many yeas ago. It just really makes you think about nature, and what it has to brign to the future. But our human race tends to be blind to the beauty of these biomes, and we decide that we need it for more useless space.

Blog #7 Two Biomes

Forest Biome:
1/3 of Earths land area
2/3 of leaf area of land plants
70% carbon in living things
worshipped in ancient religions
dominated by trees and other woody vegetation
there are different classifications of forests such as :
-tropical forest
-temperate forest
-boreal forest
Grassland Biome
dominated by grass
to types of grasslands:
-savannas
-temperate grasslands
hills of grasses and wildflowers
grasses and small plants
has some rain during the year

Blog #6 Which level of a food pyramid is the most important?

Well i believe that every single level of the food pyramid is very important, but at the same time i think that fruit is a little more important than the rest. It reduces the risk for having strokes and other cardiovascular diseases, and it reduces the risk of type two diabetes. Also give have nutrients such as potassium, dietary fiber, vitamin C, and folate. Fruits basically give you a lot of health benefits and nutrients.
